Tires

Summer tires

A summer tire gives the shortest braking distance on warm dry asphalt, sharper steering and quieter rolling than a winter tire left on through spring. It is also the simplest way to make your winter set last another season.

When to take the winters off

The law allows summer tires from March 16, but winter rubber wears fast once the pavement passes 10 °C. Around Greater Montreal the practical window is mid-April to early May, once the risk of late snow has passed.

Potholes: what to watch

Montreal springs are hard on sidewalls. After a sharp impact, check for a bubble on the sidewall, a bent rim or a slow pressure loss. A bulging sidewall cannot be repaired — the tire has to be replaced. We inspect the tire and rim free of charge during installation.

Load and speed ratings

Keep at least the load index and speed rating printed on the vehicle's door placard. Dropping a load index on an SUV or van is unsafe and can void coverage. Every product page shows the full size, load index and speed letter.

Frequently asked questions

Can I keep winter tires all summer?

It is legal, but the soft compound wears two to three times faster in the heat and braking distances get longer. You usually give up a full season of tire life.
